Funding Opportunities
Below you can find opportunities to fund your graduate education. At most institutions in the United States, fellowships and assistantships are typically awarded to full-time doctoral students. Since many of our students do not fall into this category, we have additionally provided a number of other funding resources to explore.
Graduate School University Fellowships
Fellowships offer full tuition, a stipend, and health insurance, typically awarded before students start. Nominees receive two years from the Graduate School and two more from their program, with no service obligation during the first two years.
Graduate Assistantships
Assistantships—teaching, research, or administrative—offer tuition, a stipend, and health insurance. Available to both doctoral* and master’s students through departments, they may open anytime and require about 20 hours of work weekly.

External Grant Funding
External funding may be available to all graduate students, potentially covering tuition, stipends, and health insurance. Funding may come from companies or agencies, with faculty supervising positions and work varying by grant requirement.
Scholarships
Scholarships offer partial funding for graduate students, available both internally and externally. Students must actively seek these opportunities, as some programs provide small scholarships. Students can apply, and guidelines outline eligibility.
Internal Research and Travel Grant Funds
Research and travel grants of $200-$500 are offered by various university organizations and offices. Available to both doctoral and master’s students, they help offset research and conference travel expenses.
Emergency Funds
Both doctoral and master’s students may apply for these funds (up to $500) that are intended for emergency situations that may prohibit a student from completing their graduate education. Limited eligible expenses are listed on the website.
Financial Aid
Graduate students can complete the FAFSA to apply for financial aid. The Office of Financial Aid offers education, information and support regarding financial aid.
