The Graduate School is limited by the types of application fee waivers it can provide each year.
Currently only military-connected students and those receiving public assistance (from the U.S. government) may be exempt from the application fee and request an application fee waiver with appropriate documentation.
General Fee Waiver Opportunities
- Veterans, and/or those serving Active-Duty, in the National Guard, in the Reserves, in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Marine Corps or the U.S. Coast Guard.
- Be sure to visit our Center for Military-Connected Students to learn how the University supports its military-connected students.
- Participation in one of the following:
- Medicaid
- S.N.A.P. (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as EBT and Food Stamps Program)
- Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI)
Required Documentation for General Fee Waivers
Documentation is required for military fee waiver requests and for any U.S. government benefit program fee waiver requests. Documentation can be uploaded to your application or sent to our service account gradadm@louisville.edu.
Application fee waiver documentation must contain the applicant’s name, and may include, but is not limited to:
- IDs, DD 214, or military orders
- Most recent correspondence
- Verification document or letter
Program-Based Fee Waiver Opportunities
Program-based fee waivers are occasionally granted by academic departments on a case-by-case basis. Please contact your departmental admissions coordinator for information regarding fee waiver opportunities.
Special Graduate School Program-Based Fee Waivers
Applicants participating in programs, such as McNair, TRIO, LSAMP, Fulbright, Louisville Teacher Residency Program among others may be eligible for waiver with proof of active participation. Please contact the Graduate Admissions Office (gradschool@louisville.edu) for more information.
