International student attending GTA Orientation.

New Graduate Student Orientation

Welcome to the University of Louisville Graduate School! We are excited you have decided to join us for your graduate education.

The first step in your journey to success is to complete your new graduate student orientation. As a graduate student, you may participate in more than one orientation at UofL: a program orientation, international student orientation and the overarching Graduate School orientation.

New Graduate Student Orientation Steps

  1. 1
Step 1: Complete your New Graduate Student Orientation Online Module

To help you transition to graduate student life, we have put together orientation modules for all new graduate students. Learn more information about topics like:

    • The UofL and Graduate School Community
    • Academic, Professional, and Personal Resources

    *Not required

  3. 3
Step 3: Confirm Your Academic Program Orientation

Many academic programs will hold their own orientations, either a casual meeting with faculty member or a cohort-based orientation. If you haven't heard from your academic program by July 1 about an academic program orientation, we encourage you to reach out to your academic program director (or Director of Graduate Studies/DGS) to check in.

In your academic program orientation, you'll learn more about the specific requirements and timeline of your academic program.

  4. 4
Step 4: Are You An International Student?

If you are an international student, the International Center requires that you attend their In-Person International Graduate Student Orientation as well. Here are the details for the Fall 2026 International Graduate Student Orientation:
