Community Engaged Scholarship Academy: Part 1

Fall 2024 Dates and Times: Wednesdays, 2:45pm-4:45pm (9/11, 9/25, 10/9, 10/23, 10/30, 11/13, 11/20)

The Community Engaged Scholarship Academy: Part 1 is a semester-long series of sessions introducing graduate students to key concepts in, methods of, and considerations for community engaged scholarship, as well as how to apply this knowledge in research and practice. The Community Engaged Scholarship Academy is a collaborative program among the Graduate School, and faculty and staff throughout campus. 

Typical Topics: Introduction to community engaged scholarship, ethics in community engagement projects, developing and sustaining community partnerships, methods of community engaged research, documenting and communicating accomplishments, and trauma-informed practice.

In this academy, participants will learn foundational concepts and key approaches to community engagement and community-engaged scholarship; gain practical strategies, tools, resources to help participants immediately; bolster their CV or resume for the job search; and (potentially) prepare a proposal to participate in a community engaged research project for the Community Engaged Scholarship Part 2. 


Community Engaged Scholarship Academy: Part 2

Spring 2025 Dates and Times: Full Day Training (Friday, January 24, 8:00am-5:30pm); Average of about 2 hours of work a week on project with partner; Monthly virtual drop-in hours/content sharing as schedule allows (dates/times TBD), A final showcase at a date/time yet to be determined. 

Application Deadline: Monday, January 13. **All applicants must ALSO register for the one-day training ASAP due to limited number of spots.

Part 2 of the Community Engaged Scholarship Academy will allow students the ability to put into practice what they have learned about community engaged scholarship. 

Typical Topics: Each student will work on a project determined at the one day training. Research projects will cross a variety of disciplines and topics. 

Outcomes: Participating graduate students who are able to mostly complete the requirements will be eligible for a $500 award, with a possibility of an additional $500 award.
