Guidelines for Soaring Scholars
1
Preliminary Academic Advising
Prior to acceptance into a Soaring Scholar program, students must meet with their Academic Advisor and Director of Graduate Studies to determine program eligibility.
To be program eligible:
-Students must have at least 60 undergraduate credits to apply for a Soaring Scholar program. The minimum number of program credits and prerequisite courses may vary by program.
-Students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 GPA. Some programs may have a higher overall GPA requirement or program-specific GPA requirements. Students must confirm the GPA requirement with the department.
2
Upper Division Transfer Credit Procedure
Undergraduate transfer students applying as Soaring Scholars must have a variance request submitted as part of their admissions process if more than half of their transferred credits are at the upper-division level (300-500 level).
3
Maintaining Satisfactory Progress
Soaring Scholars must schedule frequent meetings with their DGS and Academic Advisor to ensure they are meeting the Soaring Scholar program milestones and academic progress for their undergraduate degree.
Soaring Scholars must maintain an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 for admission to the master's program. Please note that some programs require a higher GPA.
Only grades B or better will be eligible to count toward a student's master's program. Soaring Scholars are assessed each semester and can be dismissed from the Soaring Scholar program for failing to make academic progress towards their undergraduate degree, or for not maintaining the minimum GPA required for the master’s admission. Upon dismissal from a Soaring Scholar program, students are still eligible to apply for a master's degree.
4
Transitioning Into Graduate Degree
A Soaring Scholar student is officially considered an undergraduate student until a bachelor’s degree is conferred. While in undergraduate status, the student enrolls for graduate credit but pays the appropriate undergraduate tuition for graduate courses and remains eligible for undergraduate financial aid and scholarships. Once formally admitted to the master's program, the Graduate School will matriculate the student as a graduate student.
Students must adhere to Graduate Academic policies outlined in the Graduate Catalog for any graduate courses taken.
