Fall 2008 Graduate Student Orientation Information

Welcome to graduate study at the University of Louisville. If you are a new graduate student, you are invited and encouraged to attend one of the new graduate student orientation sessions listed below. A variety of topics will be covered such as ID cards, parking, security and safety, research guidelines and the availability of student services such as registration, financial aid, library services, the health center, career center, and recreational facilities. This orientation is designed to complement departmental orientations. If you are a first-time graduate teaching assistant (GTA) at UofL, it is mandatory that you attend one of the following GTA orientation sessions unless your program is offering specific formal training and will submit to the Graduate School formal notification that you have completed that training. Failure to complete the required training will prevent you from receiving support as a graduate teaching assistant.


 New Graduate Students – General Orientation (choose one)

  • August 08, 2008, 8:00 am - 12:15 pm, College of Business, Room 106
  • August 12, 2008, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Chou Auditorium Ekstrom Library
  • August 16, 2008, 8:00 am - 12:15 pm, College of Business, Room 106

Note: coffee juice and pastries will be served from 8:00 am – 8:30 am.

 

 Graduate Teaching Assistants – Mandatory Orientation (choose one) 

  • August 09, 2008, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, College of Business, Room 106
  • August 15, 2008, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, College of Business, Room 106

Note: coffee juice and pastries will be served from 8:00 am – 8:30 am.

 

 At each orientation session there will be an opportunity to obtain your Cardinal Card, which serves as your UofL (Student ID).

In order to receive your Cardinal Card. please bring either your driver's license or your official passport with you to orientation.

 

International Graduate Teaching Assistants

The University of Louisville requires all new international graduate teaching assistants, with the exception of those teaching a foreign language, to demonstrate their level of proficiency in the English language before they may begin their teaching assignments as graduate teaching assistants. The English proficiency evaluation consists of a 20-minute teaching demonstration, during which the TA will present a topic that would be typical of a teaching assignment for a class which he/she is to teach.

  • Wednesday, August 13, 2008, 10:00am - 4:00pm
  • Thursday, August 14, 2008, 10:00am - 4:00pm
