The Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) provides University of Louisville undergraduate students, who would like to know more about graduate-level education at the University of Louisville, with a 10-week research experience in a department that offers graduate degrees. These fellowships will also be available to under-served/under-represented student populations from regional colleges and universities. Mentors will provide students with individualized research projects, and the program will provide group seminars on topics related to research and graduate education. This program is open to all graduate programs at the University.  Students should be, preferably, in their sophomore or junior year of study.

Graduate programs and mentors participating will develop and submit completed research plans to the SROP Steering Committee that will assure a quality research experience for the student. The Steering Committee will match students with mentors so that the best students and research plans will be supported. SROP students will participate in a Research Day with other undergraduate research opportunity students at the end of the 10-week period and must present a poster of their work.

SROP students will receive a stipend of $3,000 for the 10 weeks and the mentor is eligible for up to $500 to support the student's research and costs for production of the poster that is required.

The deadline for all materials is March 1, 2009. Selections will be made in the middle of April and the program will begin May 26, 2009.
