Curriculum Requests
Procedure
The Graduate Council Curriculum Committee meets on a set schedule each month (see below). Curriculum requests must be received in our office two weeks prior to a scheduled meeting. Any requests received after that date will be held for the next month's meeting. This procedure is necessary since all requests must be copied and sent to committee members for their review before the meeting. The meeting schedule for the current term is available here.
Departments are responsible for correctly completing the Course Inventory File form, Rev. 9/7/2007(CIF)*, attaching all pertinent documentation, and obtaining the approval signatures of the department chair, and, if applicable, the unit curriculum committee chair before forwarding to the Graduate School. Instructions for completing the CIF can be found at louisville.edu/provost/academic-programs/GENERAL%20INSTRUCTIONS.pdf.
All courses offered for graduate credit must be approved by the Graduate Council Curriculum Committee. After committee approval, requests are forwarded to the Provost's Office. All new courses require a syllabus. Syllabi for 500-level courses must include a statement that details additional requirements for graduate credit. Please review the Guidelines for Submission of Curricular Actions to the Graduate School prior to submission to ensure that your curricular request meets current Graduate School guidelines.
If you have any questions regarding the CIF form or guidelines please contact the Provost's Office at 852-2580, or if you have questions about submitting the forms to the Graduate School, please contact Janet Link.
