Graduate Student Teaching Academy
2008-2009
The Graduate Student Teaching Academy is designed to assist second year graduate students who serve as graduate teaching assistants to develop knowledge, skills and excellence in pedagogy and classroom teaching skills. The focus of the academy will be on the following topic areas in 2008-2009:
- Motivating students to learn
- Stimulating active learning in large and small classes
- Effective use of information technology in the classroom
- Classroom activities, assignments, and projects to stimulate critical thinking skills
- Learning styles and generational differences in learning
- Development of testing, evaluation and analysis methods
Graduate Teaching Assistants who are interested in developing their teaching abilities may apply to participate in the Academy for the Fall semester of the second year of their assistantship. The Academy will typically meet from 5:30-7:00 PM, three times each during the Fall and Spring semesters. Dinner will be served, engaged learning will be lively and the faculty for the program will include the very best – distinguished and highly acclaimed master professors.
Participation in the Graduate Student Teaching Academy will be limited and competitive. Graduate Teaching Assistants who are accepted into the Academy will be eligible to receive free Academy instruction as well as:
- a cash $$$ award upon successful completion
- a Graduate Teaching Academy certificate upon successful completion.
The Graduate Teaching Academy is scheduled on the following dates from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

The Graduate Student Teaching Academy is sponsored by the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies and will be directed by the Delphi Center for Teaching and Learning.
